Clinical Crown Lengthenings

How do I know if I need a crown lengthening procedure?

Do you feel your teeth look too short or too square?  If so, it may be because too much gum tissue covers your teeth, resulting in what is often called a “gummy" smile. Or, perhaps your tooth is decayed or broken below the gum line, leaving an insufficient amount of tooth structure for a restoration, such as a crown or a bridge.

What is crown lengthening?

Crown lengthening is a periodontal procedure in which excess gum and bone tissue is reshaped, exposing more of your natural tooth structure. Crown lengthening can be performed on just one tooth (to even-out your gum line), or on several teeth, resulting in a natural, bright smile.  Crown lengthening is also frequently performed following orthodontic therapy or in preparation for veneers or crowns on the front teeth.

What are the benefits of crown lengthening?

In addition to a more aesthetically-pleasing smile, the benefits of crown lengthening include the improved ability to speak, eat, and smile with greater confidence.  If you have any questions or concerns about this safe and effective procedure, please call Dr. Quamar.
